Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest and most diverse college within Lamar University.
We are committed to providing a quality education in the established and emerging fields in liberal arts and sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences is responsible for 48 percent of all university majors and 90 percent of all general education courses at Lamar. Overall, 21 academic disciplines are represented in the College’s 11 departments.
The College aspires for students to become lifelong learners by developing their creativity and analytical thinking skills. We likewise encourage them to be confident and ethical citizens who communicate their ideas clearly and with authority.
Our degree programs cover an array of disciplines of national and global significance. These include biology, chemistry, physics, geology, English and modern languages, history, nursing, political science, psychology, sociology, social work and criminal justice, space science, anthropology, philosophy, computer science, and mathematics. Additionally, the College of Arts and Sciences houses the University Writing Center, the Center for Study Abroad and the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) program.
